This is a complete review of Content Samurai, but I know that many of you are probably already sold and just want the biggest Content Samurai discount you can get. Don’t worry, I got you!
The 25% Discount
However, that’s not the best price you can get.
If you’re willing to jump through a couple hoops or wait for a bit longer, you can get the program for up to 50% off!
The 50% Discount
There are two ways to get the 50% discount:
You can get it in a week or less, but the 50% off only applies to the yearly option.
OR you can get a similar monthly discount, but you’ll have to wait anywhere between 1-3 months (or maybe even more!)
I’ll go over both of these so you can choose the option that’s right for you.
Quick 50% Discount (Annual)
To get this discount you will have to spend an extra $3 upfront, but the discount is well worth it.
Here’s how you do it:
First, download the Ultimate YouTube SEO Cheat Sheet which is free.
Next, you’ll get an email telling you about something called “Question Samurai” for $3. Buy it.
Then in a couple days you’ll get another email with a link to a discounted Content Samurai.
The yearly plan is discounted to $297 – which is $24 per month, and the monthly plan is discounted 25% so there’s no real advantage to it.
The Slower 50% Discount (Monthly)
This one takes a lot longer and the timeframe is not guaranteed.
First, you have to get on their email list by getting the free trial of Content Samurai.
And then it’s just a waiting game…
Every couple months they have big offers where you can get Content Samurai for cheap, but the problem is: there’s no set schedule.
So when you’re reading this, the next monthly 50% off offer might be in a week.
Or it might be in 4 months.
If you want to use Content Samurai during that time you could always sign up for the 25% off with one email, and then use a different email for waiting for the 50% discount.

Content Samurai is a high-quality sales video creator and while creating videos is easy and quick, it still has some issues. You can’t edit the audio quality inside the app and the price might be too steep for those who don’t create many videos. However it’s still a great option if you have a good microphone or if you’re willing to edit the audio in a different program.
They’ve also been continuously updating the app since 2015, so you know that the team is dedicated and they truly care about their customers.
What Is It?
Content Samurai is a video creation tool from the team that brought us Market Samurai. (Market Samurai was actually my very first Internet Marketing purchase so it has a dear place in my heart.)
The app lets you create promotional videos in your browser.
They started out with VSL-only type videos, but the program is no longer limited to just that.
They still have the original “sales letter slides that look like this:
If you’re unfamiliar with what a VSL is, here’s a quick rundown:
It’s a video of slides with text and images on them that usually has a voice-over, that’s designed to promote (or usually sell, something.)
Well, they now have hundreds of templates that allow you to automatically create not only VSL’s but also put together complete videos with stock video and stock images.
So now you can get complete videos just like the ones that are so popular on Facebook and YouTube.
Those videos used to be extremely complicated to make and took hours (and a lot of expensive stock footage.)
But programs like Content Samurai have democratized the process you can create videos like these for only $47 (or even less with the discount.)
I’ve already written a pretty detailed Content Samurai review on my main site, but I will make this one as detailed and useful as I can.
I first created this review in 2015 which is when Content Samurai was released, but I’ve updated it many times since then. (The most recent update was in February of 2020.)
|The Good||The Bad|
|Easy to use||Can’t edit the audio quality online, so if your microphone isn’t great, you gotta fix it after creating the video. However, you can also record audio, edit it with Audacity and then upload it which makes it easier.|
|30,000+ free soundtracks||It’s not a one and done deal. You have to pay monthly.|
|100,000+ free background videos & images||The Market isn’t oversaturated yet, but eventually it will be.|
|100s of different templates|
|The AI works great – for automatic scene selection & audio->script syncing|
|Simple audio recording & sync|
|Everything is done in the cloud|
|Easy acknowledgmenets for CC images used in your video|
|Can insert your own videos between, before, and after text slides|
|Easy to create watermarks!|
|You basically get a StoryBlocks subscription which costs $29.08/month for unlimited access, but you get it for free for $47 (or even cheaper if you get the discount.)|
If you want to see the software in action I have a video review that you might find useful.
Now let’s talk about Content Samurai in more detail!
I’ll start with the flow of the program and then talk about the bad and the good of it.
This is the bar on the left of the video-creation dashboard and it’s pretty self-explanatory.
You start at the top and go all the way down to create your video.
There are tons of templates you can use to create your video, and if you don’t like the ones they offer you can create your own.
They have templates for:
- Social Media – great for Facebook ads
- Blog Post – great for YouTube videos
- Influencer Video – PERFECT for authority building and Facebook ads or native posts
- Instant Ads – Valentine’s Day & Christmas templates, but you can use them for any product or offer discounts
- Sales video – The original VSL
- Online course – More text oriented than the blog post videos, but very similar
- Property listing – basically videos for real estate agents
Here’s what their Social Media templates look like:
The Script Section
In the script section you choose a video title and add your “script” for the video.
This text is what you’ll be voicing-over and this is the text that will show up on the slides.
You can also select how you want Content Samurai to create the slides.
You have 3 options:
- Create slides automatically
- Use one sentence per slide
- Use one paragraph per slide
I recommend using the automatic option as with the other ones your slides might be a little too full.
You can always edit the slides later if you’re unhappy with how they look.
Here is where you can also select what elements Content Samurai uses to create your video.
You can create it only with video, only with images, with both, or neither.
The Scenes Section
Content Samurai automatically picks videos, images, etc for you, but here is when you can edit things you don’t think look good.
The most amazing part to me is that you get access to thousands of videos simply for paying for Content Samurai!
A StoryBlocks subscription for what you get here would cost $30+/month, but you get it all for $47 (or even less if you’re smart and you get a discount. 😉
You can also select your own videos, move the text around, change the images, and insert your own pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll videos.
The section below about slide formats is from the old review and mostly to the VSL/sales video templates.
In the slides section you get to pick from 50 of their slide designs and pick the layout of each slide.
Here are all of the slide designs:
And here are all of the slide layouts:
If you don’t like any of the provided slides, you can create your own by editing the background color, the text color, and/or the background image. You can even save it if you want to keep your branding consistent across all of your videos!
You can also add your own images to the slides of your choice or you can use the Creative Commons images that they provide if you want to spice up your presentation.
You can put the image as the background, put it to the left of the text, to the right of the text, or put the text on a strip at the top or bottom of the image.
You can also edit the text, merge the slides together, hide the text completely, or bold/italicize it.
You can also insert a video before or after any of the slides, so if you have an intro or outro you don’t have to use another editing program to add it to your videos.
The Audio Section
This is where you record the voiceover (if you choose to do it in Content Samurai.)
You can either record it step-by-step or record it all at once using your computer and then upload the file.
The beauty of step by step is that you don’t have to say everything all at once, so if you make a mistake you don’t have to repeat the whole text over again.
However, if your microphone isn’t great then it might be better to simply record using Audacity, get rid of the noise, and then upload the audio file to Content Samurai.
Either way, the program will still everything together
You don’t have to do the whole thing all at once.
Instead you do it one sentence at a time and then Content Samurai stitches it all together.
Quick tip: Content Samurai splits the audio recording using the following punctuation: . ! ? … and newline. If you want to record longer or shorter sentences simply change your punctuation.
Here’s an image of the audio section:
It’s actually quite cool how you can do the voice-over.
You press next, there’s a 3 second count down, you record your voice, press the stop button, press next, and do it all over again.
You can also use the arrow keys if your mouse is loud and you don’t want the noise to be in the video.
Here’s a GIF to show you what I mean:
The Preview Section
Here is where you can choose from a 30,000+ list of music of many different genres and moods.
You can also add a watermark if you want.
The watermark is either the one that goes accross the entire video to prevent clients from stealing the draft video when you send it over to them, or you can do one anywhere in the video for branding purposes.
You can also adjust the volume of yourself and the music if for some reason you were too quiet or the music is too loud.
Next you get to preview your video to make sure that the program synced your audio with the text slides correctly.
Usually it’s very good at it, but sometimes it makes mistakes.
If it does make a mistake, or if you want to change the duration of a certain slide for whatever reason you can click on the “Adjust Manual Timing” button, press play, and then adjust the timing by pressing the slide button every time you want a new slide to show up.
It’s quite simple and actually somewhat fun to do.
The Download Section
Next is the download section where you can download the video and get the “easy acknowledgments” link for the CC images used in your video.
I believe that the video-rendering process happens online as my computer CPU and RAM usage stayed the same when the video was rendering.
It does a little bit of time, but it’s not as long as Premier Pro usually takes for me.
The best part about it is that everything is in the cloud so you can keep working on your computer without worrying about it being slow or non-responsive.
They Samurai team has been updating the app multiple times per month which shows that they truly care about their customers and they want to create a product people will use. (The app has been updated for 5 years now and they show no sign of slowing down!)
They’ve added tons of templates, new video and image features, and have incorporated numerous feedback from within the CS Facebook Group.
They even fixed the issue with someone using a bad microphone to record audio because you can simply record it with Audacity, edit it, and then upload it.
Before this update you would have to record it using Content Samurai, download the video, edit the video, and then overlay the soundtrack over the video yourself using Premier Pro or a different program (which is sort of pointless if you’re trying not to use any of those annoyingly advanced features.)
It’s all in the cloud, they have a 7 day free trial, you can create and edit your own themes, and you can create a video in 10 minutes or less.
What’s not to like?
My biggest issue with the app is that you can’t edit the audio coming from your microphone.
It’s not a big deal if you’re using an expensive microphone, but if you’re like me and you have to edit your sound in Audacity to make it sound good, then you can either publish a video with bad sound or record the entire audio file in Audacity and then upload it.
The price is also pretty high.
The software used to cost $99/month, but they’ve recently switched it to $47 per month which isn’t much if you’re making tons of these videos every week, but if you just want to try out the software then it might be too steep.
They do offer a free trial though, and you CAN get the software for half the price using the discount strategies at the beginning of the post, so it’s not that bad.
Who is Content Samurai For?
If you have any type of business or presence online Content Samurai can help you.
If you don’t have an online presence, but you have a brick and mortar business then Content Samurai can help you establish an online presence and get clients that you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.
Basically Content Samurai is for:
- Internet Marketers
- Small business owners
- SEO agencies
- YouTube or other social media owners
- Anyone who wants to build a brand online
Why Should You Get Content Samurai?
This is a question I’ve been asked a ton so I decided to answer it here.
Video is a growing industry and while Google SEO is getting harder and harder, many businesses are not targeting YouTube as much as they should be.
This means that you can rank yourself high and get customers if you’re a business owner, or you can create and sell lead-generation videos to local businesses.
However, that still doesn’t answer the main question.
Well, it’s cheap (compared to hiring a professional videographer), looks great, and you don’t have to do any editing or dealing with codecs yourself.
Adobe Premiere Pro and Vegas Studio are incredibly powerful programs, but they also take a while to learn and figure out.
What codec should you use? What about the bitrate? The aspect ratio? The framerate?
When was just starting out with YouTube it took me nearly 3 months to figure out the best settings for Premiere Pro and I was recording and editing nearly a video per day!
With Content Samurai you don’t have to do all that.
Another huge advantage is using video in your advertising.
Surprisingly simple videos like these do very well on Facebook. I have not tested them on YouTube ads yet, but they might be pretty effective on YouTube also.
Why Use Video?
At this point you might be thinking about buying this program, but you might still be not convinced about the benefits it’ll bring you.
Instead of trying to convince you I’ll just bring in the experts:
- 73% of U.S. adults are more likely to purchase a product or service after watching an online video explaining it – This is why sales videos in this format are so effective! It might not seem like much, but watching a video and hearing a real human’s voice will increase people’s trust which in turn can make them buy more products from you.
- Videos attract 300% more traffic than any other type of content – Awesome, right?
- One minute of video is worth 1.8 million words. This was calculated by James McQuivey PhD. The dude has a PhD so he must know what he’s talking about. Right?
- YouTube is the number 2 search engine in the world right after Google.
What should you record?
You might be thinking that video is great and all, but what types of videos should I create?
Short videos that show your passion for your business and display that you’re a real person can work wonders.
You might not have the budget of a huge company so you can’t create professionally edited $5,000/hour videos, but customers don’t care about that.
They want to know what’s in it for them, but they also crave a human touch to make them feel good about shopping at a small business instead of at a huge store.
What have I used it for?
I’ve used Content Samurai for two reasons:
- Creating videos to publish on YouTube to get traffic and backlinks to my Amazon affiliate sites
- Create sales/promotional videos to promote other people’s affiliate programs using YouTube ads
If I had my own product I would probably use Content Samurai to sell it, just because these types of videos are so incredibly effective.
